July 19, 1952 - February 24, 2017

Peggy Ann (Vogel) Wheaton of Grand Rapids Michigan and of her adopted home town, San Diego California, passed away in Temecula California at the age of 64 on Friday, February 24, 2017.

Two memorials will be held.  One at Life Church (1001 W Country Club Ln, Escondido, California 92026) at 3:30 PM, Saturday, March 11, 2017,
The second At West Golden Wesleyan Church (2752 N 34th Ave, Mears, MI 49436) at 11:00 AM on July 27, 2017.

Peggy was born to Harry and Betty Vogel on July 19, 1952 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  After graduating from Ottawa Hills High School, she attended Ferris State College, and graduated from Grand Valley with a bachelor’s degree and credentials in Elementary Education and Physical Education. She resided for brief periods in Arizona and New Mexico and a little longer in Florida before moving to San Diego, California in 1986. She taught in Florida for four years. She taught in San Diego from 1987 through 2007 except for school year 2003-2004 which she spent in Ohio. Peggy married Max Wheaton on March 27, 1988 in La Jolla, California. Peggy volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and provided foster care for several animals as well as having many pets of her own.  She also volunteered for the special Friends program through San Diego County that led to a twenty year relationship with Mike Johnson who was considered a son by both Peggy and Max.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Harry Vogel and by a son according to her heart, Mike Johnson.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Max Wheaton; son Nicholas Wheaton; step son Sean Wheaton; her mother, Betty Vogel; sisters, Linda Harris  and Sally Irwin; brothers Steve Vogel, Mike Vogel, and Tom Vogel.

Peggy loved children and animals and cared passionately for people who suffered from intestinal ailments as she did. Therefore, it is recommended that mourners consider contributing in her memory rather than giving flowers. Consider volunteering to help foster children, perhaps as a CASA as she did https://www.speakupnow.org/ .  Also, donations in her memory can be made to Animal Friends of the Valleys http://animalfriendsofthevalleys.com/give-online/ or to Crohn’s & Colitis foundation http://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org/get-involved/donate-to-ccfa/honors-and-memorial.html
