Mary Lee Boales
(Marylee Boales)

April 9, 1944 - June 24, 2020

Marylee (Root) Boales 1944-2020

Marylee Boales (born Mary Lee Root in 1944) passed away at home on June 24, 2020, with the same grace and courage that she exhibited throughout her life. A native of Northern California, Marylee and her husband, Gene, moved to Southern California in late 2018 to live near their daughters. She was surrounded by them all in her final days and she left this world knowing that she was well loved.

Marylee was many things in her life, from daughter and big sister to wife, mother and grandmother, friend and mentor. Gene and Marylee met at as students at Chico State and they were married in 1967. They just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in January of this year.

She is survived by her husband, Gene (Finis Eugene Boales, Jr.); daughters Stacy Varner and Katelyn Gilliard, their husbands Jeff and Nick, and three beloved granddaughters, Jenny, Cora and Graycen; also her siblings Marvin Root, Gerry Root, and Vicki Stevens, all of California; her mother-in-law, Emma Boales of Anderson; and many beloved nieces, nephews, sisters- and brothers-in-law, and cousins. Marylee was the mostly obedient but always loving daughter of Loris Leo Root and Mary Helen Wheeler Root, both deceased.

Marylee started her career as an English teacher Colusa High School and then taught junior high at Chico Christian School for many years. After moving to San Jose in 1981, Marylee spent the rest of the eighties working in a stock brokerage firm but upon moving back north in 1989, she worked in the non-profit world for several years in both Redding and Red Bluff. She then found her calling as the grant writer for the Shasta Union High School District where she secured grants for programs such as teen pregnancy prevention and the Chinese-language immersion school. After retiring from the school district, Marylee continued to work for various non-profits, published professional articles and taught grant-writing classes at Shasta College. She officially re-retired just a couple of years ago and continued to receive requests for her services until quite recently. Active in the church throughout her life, Marylee also enjoyed working with women’s ministries at Redding Christian Fellowship.

Marylee knew how to appreciate the simple things that make life enjoyable. Things like nature (especially butterflies, trees, clouds and the rugged Pacific coastline), good books, good people, humor in dark moments, word games, finding grammatical errors in professionally printed signs and publications, and her morning coffee. She found the joy and beauty in each day, because it’s there if you just take a minute to look for it.

No services are scheduled at this time due to Covid-19 restrictions. The family will make plans for a future celebration of Marylee’s life to be held at Redding Christian Fellowship, the church that Gene and Marylee attended for over 20 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to one of these wonderful organizations whose missions Marylee supported:  Good News Rescue Mission in Redding, The Nature Conservancy, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Ira William Schumer

November 2, 1951 - June 23, 2020

Ira William Schumer always aspired to make people laugh and leave them wanting more, and this he accomplished.

Ira, aged 68, of Murrieta, CA. passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours on June 23, 2020.  He had been diagnosed with brain cancer two months prior.

Ira was born in San Francisco on November 2, 1951 to Nathan and Bernice (Einspruch) Schumer.  When Ira was 8 his family moved to Yuba City.  He was a 1969 graduate of Yuba City High School and Yuba College.  Ira married Ann Wald in Yuba City on September 21, 1974, and they raised a son, Nathan and a daughter, Sara.  In 2004 Ira and Ann moved to Murrieta for Ira’s work.

Ira worked in the plumbing and building industry, wearing many different hats:  a plumbing contractor, an estimator, Northwest Regional Representative for the Cast Iron Soil Pipe Industry, and National Sales manager for Anaco Husky Couplings,  After tiring of  many years of traveling, Ira became a local Technical Sales Representative for Howard Fletcher Co. and then Signature Sales, where he passionately worked until his diagnosis of cancer.

Ira was a member of American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and Unified Pipe and Plumbing Association (UPPA).  Always the performer Ira enjoyed participating in community theatre while in Yuba City.  Some of his most memorable roles were Billy Flynn in Chicago and Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.  He was comfortable in front of an audience and enjoyed doing presentations for work.

Ira was a force of nature and his love for his family, friends, country and golf was legendary.  Always smiling, always positive, he wanted to entertain and make people laugh and feel comfortable. Ready with a story or advice and willing to repair or assist family and friends or strangers when in need.  There was not a golf course he did not want to play and made many friends through the years while golfing.  He was an adored Papa to his grandsons and had a special and loving bond with them.

Ira is survived by his wife, Ann, of Murrieta, his daughter, Sara Bell (Scott), his grandsons, Carter and Cameron Bell, sister, Marsha Schumer and his brother, Sol Schumer.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Nathan.

Outdoor  memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Monteleone Meadows in Murrieta.

Jamie Michelle Woolever-Sanchez, daughter to Barbara and James Woolever, born February 15, 1961 and left her physical form on June 8, 2020. She is survived by her partner of 27 years, Donald Burris; her daughter, Alicia Sanchez; and her son, Connor Burris.

Jamie lived her life to the fullest. She loved to craft and crochet; swim and be free.

Jamie will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved her most. The family asks that people donate time or money to their local no-kill shelters; be it walking doggies, feeding kittens, fostering pets; or donating blankets, towels, and other soft things for these pets in need. One of Jamie's greatest attributes was her love of all animals and rescuing those in need.

Many blessings from Alicia, Connor, and Donald.
