Uncle
Ray was baptized Raymond Victor Weinzetl and was the youngest of five children
born to Joseph and Margaret Weinzetl. He was nine yrs. older than me, but when
we lived on Grandpa and Grandma Weinzetl's farm west of Iona, Mn., he was
charged with keeping me occupied during the day. We chased the chickens. The
rooster chased us. We climbed the ladder in the barn to the hay mow and looked
for baby kittens and chickens sitting on a nest of eggs. Bet you didn't know
chickens could fly. LOL. He picked up frogs from the little creek east of the
house for us to play with, pushed me high in the tire swing, played with the
kittens on the front porch and he loved me like a little sister. We moved to
Fulda when I was old enough for school. He went to High School at Fulda High
School. He joined the navy at a very young age, sixteen if I remember
correctly.. His parents had to sign to give their permission. He used to bring
me a little present from every country he visited. The most spectacular was a
two foot tall walking china doll with moveable eyes that he purchased in Spain.
He had the greatest laugh and always called me Snooks!. He was a gentle soul
like his father was and kind -natured . I know you miss him terribly. He took
good care of and loved you all with his whole heart and soul. If there is a
lesson he leaves - it is that. Bless you all as you make this journey. With
love and sympathy, Michele Weinzetl- Ludewig
