Charles
Richard Thornton, 90 passed away Saturday 14th May 2016 under the care of
Desert Community Hospice following a brief illness, proceeded in death by his
parents and brothers and sisters. He leaves his wife of 20 years, Mary
Thornton; His sons, (Richard) and his wife Norma, (Larry) and his wife Vicki,
(Roy), and his wife Jennifer, and daughters ( Susie Graham), (Barbara Ramos)
and husband Paco and numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and several
Great Great Grandchildren. He was born and raised in Summerfield Texas, was the
son of Exemander and Bertha Thornton. Charlie was raised on a farm and
established a strong work ethic prior to joining the US Navy during WWII
serving in the South Pacific Theater on the USS Bright. After being honorably discharged
he returned to the US and went to welding school and became an oilfield welder,
working in the industry 50 plus years in Texas, Alaska and California. His
passion for helping people included running the food bank at his home Church
for 20 plus years as well as being an Elder and Usher for many years. Charlie
stayed busy working with his hands and loved his rose garden. Services will be
held at Inland memorial chapel at Colton, California at 9 am on 25th May, 2016
with grave side services following at Riverside National Cemetery at 11:30 am.
