Ida Mae Christian

July 9, 1944 - July 12, 2016

Ida was born on July 9, 1944 to the late Glen Christian and Leah Kate Stephens in Uniontown, Alabama. She is the sixth of seven siblings. She accepted Jesus Christ while attending Pilgrim Baptist Church, under the ministry of Rev. John Dixie. She attended Johnny Appleseed School for children with Special needs where she learned many social skills and domestic skills. Ida Mae was fun loving and compassionate. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning and being around family. She was always so proud of how she could write her name, enjoyed riding her bicycle, threading beads, coloring, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her big sister Augusta (Dee Dot). The two were inseparable and a wonderful companion for each other. When Dee Dee passed last October, Ida’s spirit showed “I will see you soon, Sistah”. In 2006, both sisters moved to sunny California to live with their sister Juanita McLean. Ida Mae attended Casa Colina Adult Daycare in Claremont, California. Ida Mae enjoyed dancing, coloring, and making beaded necklaces, etc. The staff at the center said she was a pleasure to be around. Her joyful and peaceful spirit remained until her illness beset her. Ida Mae leaves to mourn three sisters– Kina King (Willie James) of Fort Wayne, Indiana: Elaine Hambright of Banning, California: Juanita C. McLean of Claremont: and Augusta Christian who preceded her in death. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Sunrise: July 9, 1944 Sunset: July 12, 2016
