June 12, 1958 Sunset: July 15, 2016 Mark was born in San Francisco, California.
As a child, Mark had a love of cars and had a collection of over 100 hot
wheels! That love led to buying car after car. He would trade in one car and
purchase another. After graduation from high school, Mark enlisted in the U.S.
Army and was stationed in Germany. Mark would always say to his sister, “I love
my nieces to pieces.” He loved the Grand Canyon, Disneyland and Knott’s Berry
Farm. Mark had a lot of friends –so many, that his mom would say “ring the bell
in a code so I will know it is Mark’s family instead of having to answer the
door for Mark’s friends”. He liked to help people and make them laugh, and
would strike up a conversation with anyone. Mark moved from the San Francisco
area to the Los Angeles area and worked for the Veteran’s Administration
helping Veterans receive their benefits. If a veteran was unable to come to
Mark, Mark went to them. In 2005, Mark met Lan Voong and they were married
March 21st, 2008 in Viet Nam. They built a beautiful life together and he
always made Lan feel happy, safe and protected. She thanks him for all the
wonderful memories they shared, the wonderful things he did for her and her
family, and the way he cared for her. No love was stronger or more profound
than the love they shared for each other. Mark is preceded in death by his
mother, Dorothy R. Charley; his father, James E. Charley, II; and his brother,
James “Poppy” Charley, III. He is survived by the love of his life, Lan Voong
Charley; his brothers Maurice Charley, Russell Charley, and Chris Charley;
sisters Selena Coleman and Marilyn Miller; nieces Demetria, Temeira, Jamaica,
Kianna and Melina; and nephews Russell, Jr., Angelo, and Maurice, Jr., as well
as a host of cousins and friends. Interment with full military honors will
occur Wednesday, August 3rd at 10:30am, Staging area #3 at Riverside National
