Ruth Pregger Brower

January 29, 1923 – August 14, 2016

In Loving Memory Our sweet Ruth Pregger Brower, age 93, passed away on August 14, 2016 in Victorville, CA. Ruth was born on January 29, 1923 to Clara and Charles Pregger in Clifton, New Jersey. She attended the University of Oregon Medical School and earned a nursing degree. She worked as a nurse in public health and a school district. Ruth was especially proud of her service in WWII and the Korean War as a US Air Force Captain and flight nurse. While in Vallejo, CA, Ruth met Harvey Brower, a WWII army veteran. They married on March 9, 1952. For twenty years, they lived in Napa where they owned a restaurant and then an appliance store. After this, they purchased the Gateway Motel in Lee Vining. Here Ruth was able to pursue her dream of riding horses. Ruth retired in Reno where she lived for 23 years. In 2003 Ruth and Harvey moved to Victorville where she was integrally involved in bunco, craft, knitting and exercise groups. She was very generous and loved by all. Ruth was a compassionate person who will be remembered for her strong unfailing faith, for her adventurous spirit, her community involvement, and her love for her family and friends. Ruth never failed to send a personal letter and birthday card to all of her friends and family. Visitors to Ruth’s home left with canned jelly, baked breads/cookies or other treats as tokens of her love. Ruth is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harvey J. Brower; son, Harvey Jay Brower; granddaughter, Brittany Brower; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Brower. Funeral services will be held on September 16th at Riverside National Cemetery.
