James
Elmer Pope passed away on February 28, 2017, at the age of 70. He died peacefully at his elder daughter’s
home in Nuevo, CA, in the company of family.
Born in Columbia, Tennessee, he was l of 5 children of William Arthur
and Lucille Pope. He spent his childhood
in Tennessee before enlisting in the Navy at age 18. After serving honorably, including multiple
combat tours during the Vietnam War, and having received the National Defense
Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, he retired from
the Navy in 1971. Upon his departure
from active duty, Jim entered the Naval Reserve and took up residence in
Lakewood, CA. He was employed as a Field
Technician (Pole Climber) for Pacific Bell/SBC for more than 30 years before
retiring in Hawaiian Gardens, CA
Mr
Pope is survived by his 3 adult children, son James Pope Jr, daughters Janice Tremblay
and Jocelyn Krist; and his 6 grandchildren, grandson Gilbert Marquez, and
granddaughters Madison Tremblay, Aillee Pope, Rubi-Mae Pope, Reagan Krist and
Devyn Krist; as well as his brother Michael Pope of Columbia, TN
