Jacqueline “Jackie” Rutherford

April 25, 1924 - June 25, 2017

Jackie Rutherford, 93, of Colton, CA, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2017, after a long battle with COPD.

Born Jacqueline Dorothy Nay in Chicago, IL and raised in rural Phoenix, AZ by her Swedish grandmother, she moved to Long Beach, CA in the 1940s after finishing high school.  While living in Long Beach Jackie worked as a veterinarian technician and volunteered at the USO dances during World War II.  She met and married car dealer, Charles Weidell, also of Long Beach, in 1951 and they had two daughters. Jackie began a long career in finance in the 1950s after her divorce, retiring from her last position as an Accountant for the Associated Students office at the University of California, Riverside in 1991.  She married Joe Rutherford in the 1970s and is his widow.  Jackie will be remembered for her beauty, intelligence and dry wit.  She was an excellent writer and lover of poetry, and a voracious reader. She loved music and film, and she had a special knack with animals and gardening.  She was also a strong and determined single parent, a devout Lutheran, and a proud Swedish American. Her 2 children, her sister, and 8 nieces and nephews survive her.
