John Robert Mathews
August 2, 1924 - September 12, 2017
John R. Mathews joined his late wife in eternal rest on
Sept. 12, 2017 following a short illness. He was 93.
Born in Los Angeles on Aug. 2, 1924, to Harold and Faerie
Queen Mathews, he grew up in the San Fernando Valley, graduating from North
Hollywood High School. Johnny married Leeta Mae in 1960, and moved to Cherry
Valley four years later. Johnny worked as a lithographer for most of his adult
life. Johnny and Leeta Mae enjoyed camping and traveling after retirement and
singing at the Gilman Ranch Hand meetings and at nursing homes on Sundays.
He is survived by his son Robert, and Robert’s wife Laura,
of Phoenix; and daughter Melody, and her husband John of Cherry Valley. He is
also survived by grandson, Thomas Mathews, and his wife, Niki, of Phoenix;
granddaughter, Rachel Flores, of Santa Clara; grandson, Jason Flores, of
Honolulu; and granddaughter, Laurissa of Phoenix. His first great-grandchild,
Emma, is due soon.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25
at Stewart Sunnyslope Cemetery.
