April 16, 1934 - November 16, 2017
Daniel Ruben Garcia, 83, passed away after a brief illness,
in his home in La Verne the morning of November 16, 2017.
Daniel was born April 16, 1934 to Pedro Flores Garcia and
Violet Hazel (Lafayette) Garcia.
After graduating from Redlands High School, Dan, a gifted
musician, was drafted into the military where he served in the Korean ‘police
action’ War as a Private First Class in the 50th Army Band. Dan enjoyed being a
musician learning to play the Cello at a younger age as well as Banjo like his
father Pedro and came to love the Bass, Violin and Mandolin. As a provider, he
spent time in the workforce as a jeweler and then machinist for a major defense
contractor. Soon after the industry downsized, Dan found his passion for music
again and began performing with various artists throughout the rest of his
life. For the last decade, Daniel provided transportation and other helpful
services as a senior companion to many of his friends and neighbors at Vintage
Grove Senior Apartments. He built deep everlasting friendships with his clients
and he will be missed dearly by his community.
Daniel leaves behind five sons, of whom he was very proud:
Daniel Garcia Jr., Damien D. (Julie) Garcia of Albuquerque, Kurt D. (Allison)
Garcia of Los Angeles, Michael D. (Danielle) Garcia of Albuquerque, and Steffen
D. Garcia of Albuquerque; two sisters: Rosemarie Shaffer (Bakersfield) and his
twin, Doreen (Fred) Castro of La Verne. He also leaves to cherish his memory
three grandsons, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his mother and father,
brother-in-law Rex Allen Shaffer
A small private military service will be held for the family
at Riverside National Cemetery on Wednesday December 6, 2017. A celebration of
life will be held on December 5, 2017.
May your life be filled with song.
May your life be filled with love.
