Raphael (Ray) Dominic Spadavecchia
January 25, 1924 - November 20, 2017
Ray at the age of 93, quietly passed away at his home in
Apple Valley, CA. He was born in Ramsey, New Jersey to Dominic Spadavecchia and
Rosalie Fontana. He attended school in Ramsey, New Jersey. After graduating in
1943, he then enlisted in the United States Army where he became a World War II
Veteran. After serving time in the military, he returned to Mahwah, New Jersey
and spent many years working at Continental Can Company. During that time he
also spent 18 years as a volunteer firefighter/EMS. After spending many years
in New Jersey, he chose to move to the Los Angeles, Ca area, where he opened
his own business in North Hollywood.
Ray retired to Apple Valley, Ca where he spent many years
involved in Shriner's, Masons, 842 Lodge,
York Rite, Scottish Rite and many other organizations. He received many
awards throughout his life including a Hiriam Award in 2002 during his second
year as Worshipful Master of the 842 Lodge. His hobbies included hunting,
fishing, gardening, reading and many other interests.
Ray is survived by his wife of 30 years, Thelma and, his
sister Mary McDonough and 5 children. Susan Liem, Lorraine Dean, Nancy Davis,
Diane Gerald and Jeff Spadavecchia. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great
grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents
6 siblings and one son, James Dillon. He was a very loving husband and father.
Ray was very well thought of in the community. He will be missed greatly.
There will be a family graveside service at Riverside
National Cemetery. A Celebration of his Life is being planned for a later date.
