Zelwyn Cashies Pierson
March 17, 1927 - February 15, 2019
Mr. Zelwyn Cashies Pierson, 91 years of age, passed away on
Friday, February 15, 2019. He was in the comfort of his home of 55 years
surrounded by his wife and family. He was preceded in death by his daughters
Marcia Anne Pierson and Deborah Kay (Ronald Matava) Pierson and his son Ronald
James Pierson. Four sisters Carmen Rock, Shirley McMahon, Lila Perry and Sandy
Pierson. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan Graves Pierson
of Riverside, CA, one sister, Onilee Haley of Oscoda, Michigan, sons Terence
Zelwyn (Etta) Pierson of Anderson, Missouri, Glen Lee Pierson of Riverside,
California and Scott David (Theresa) Pierson of Poughkeepsie, New
York. He had 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Zelwyn was born in Otter Lake, Michigan to Cashies Efrham
and Loretta Pierson March 17, 1927. He graduated high school in 1945 and joined
the United States Army Air Force until 1950. He then continued to serve his
country as an Air Force reservist. He was in WWII stationed at Fort Ord, CA,
then was sent to Germany. He met his wife upon finishing his 4 yr term with the
USAAF in 1950 and married her in March 1951. He was called to active duty on
April 1, 1951 and shipped to Texas. Several months later his wife left Michigan
to be with him. Their first child was born late December that year. They moved
back to Michigan in 1952.
April 1963 he moved his family to CA. He worked many
different jobs, retiring from Mountain View School district as a custodian
in 1991.
He loved to travel and had visited every state in the US. He
was a skilled carpenter and had a passion for gardening. He loved to make
things with his hands. He made many dressers, chests, hutches etc that will be
passed down for generations to come."
