Guadalupe San Miguel Jr, 87, of Grand Terrace, California,
passed away on Friday, May 1st, 2020 in San Bernardino, California. He was also
known as "Pito" to his family, "Sam" to his many friends.
He was born in Austin, Texas, on November 27th, 1932 to Guadalupe
Sr and Herminia San Miguel, of Texas.
Guadalupe and his wife, Andrea, celebrated their 66th
wedding anniversary on January 30th, 2020. They were wed at St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Barstow, California. He will be remembered for his generosity by
family and friends, especially his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren always
taking out cash from his pocket and giving it to them every time he saw them.
He served in the Marine Corps from January 16th, 1951 to
January 8th, 1954. He was honorably discharged as Sergeant (June 1,
1952). He was awarded The Good Conduct Medal First Award, National Defense
Service Medal, Korea Service Medal with 2 Stars, and United Nations Service
Medal. He was proud of his service in the Marine Corps and proudly wore his Korean
Veteran baseball cap everywhere. He earned an Associate of Arts degree from San
Bernardino Valley College. He worked for Duane Roberts as head chef/product
development at Butcher Boy Foods, Fernando Foods and The Mission Inn for over
30 years.
He competed in bowling leagues for over 40 consecutive years
at Arrowhead Lanes in San Bernardino, California. In his earlier years he
played golf with the Mexican American Golf Association. He also enjoyed working
on his rentals and being a friend to all who knew him. He was a parishioner of
Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, Grand Terrace, for 33 years.
Guadalupe is survived by his son Anthony (Diane) San Miguel
of Aurora, Colorado and their children, Mary and Dean; Arnold (Lily) San Miguel
of Rancho Cucamonga, California and their daughter Amanda; Ann Marie (Edward)
Aboytes of San Bernardino, California and their son/stepson Samuel Miranda;
Annette Lafkas-San Miguel of Ontario, California; and Arleen "Deanie"
(Jay) Mercado of Ogden, Utah.
Mourning his death are his sisters Cordelia Ruiz, Berta San
Miguel, Josephine Perez and brother George San Miguel. Many loved ones
including nieces, nephews, and step-grand/great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son, Arthur San Miguel. His
sisters Ernestine San Miguel, Blanche Bernal, and Dolores Villarreal. His
brother Roy San Miguel, and Son-in-law Phillip Lafkas.
A private burial will take place with Guadalupe's wife,
children and their spouses. A memorial will be announced at a later date.
