Joanna Lorenz

October 2, 1963 - July 7, 2020

Joanna Catherine (Hunt) Lorenz, 56 years young.
Unexpectedly started on her Heavenly journey July 7, 2020 in Colton, California.

Born 1963 in Mesa, Arizona to Sharon (O’Dell) Hunt and Royce Alan Hunt. She was the third of four children. Although born in Arizona, Joanna lived her entire life in sunny Southern California. Growing up in Pomona and Ontario and then later moving to Colton to raise a family.

Married in 1984 to Kenneth Lorenz. They were soon blessed with two beautiful children, Elishia Joy and Joseph Paul. Joanna married again later on in life (2012) to Eugene Truman and continued to live in Colton CA until she was abruptly called upon to leave us.

Undoubtedly, “With a song to Heal the Soul” in her heart.
Joanna had such a love for music and always touted her motto, “Don’t Die With Your Music Still In You”. Her music will follow her eternally. Her favorite songs will bless us each time we hear them from now until forever.

In her younger years when her children were small they all enjoyed family camping and fishing trips to all their favorite lakes in CA and AZ. Hemet Lake, Mountain Lakes in Lytle Creek and Apache Lake in Arizona were some of their favorite family spots. Her children were always her pride and joy. She always made sure to make great family memories on all their vacations together, whether it be with just the family or some extended family time in Arizona with the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joanna loved computers and was one of the first to own one when they were commercially available in the late 80’s. She became a computer whiz when many of us didn’t have a clue. Computers helped in cataloging some of her other hobbies such as poetry, craft projects and needlepoint. Joanna was blessed with beautiful handwriting and had a knack for writing some wonderful poetry verses throughout the years. She had a way with words and how to weave them into a fascinating and lyrical story.

Her love of animals was always on display. Never without a dog or cat in her life as a child or as an adult. Her two cats, Dottie and Echo, will miss their momma terribly.

She was a wonderful and loving stay-at-home mom when the kids were small. Later in life, after her children were grown, Joanna attended San Bernardino Valley College. Working on credits towards drug counseling and caregiving courses. She was a caregiver for Home Instead for many years. She had the love and compassion for caregiving like no other. Not an easy profession both physically and emotionally but she was a natural at it. She had many steady clients over the years that adored her.

Joanna had an insatiable love of the ocean and made as many trips as possible down to her timeshare in San Diego. Palm Springs was also another favorite timeshare hangout for family fun. She loved getting her family together for long weekends and walks on the salty air beaches. It was always her dream to be surrounded by both her children and granddaughter Holleigh down at the beach splashing in the waves.

She is preceded in death by her father, Royce Alan Hunt, her first husband, Kenneth Lorenz, and second husband, Eugene Truman.

She is survived by daughter, Elishia Joy Lorenz of Seattle,WA., son, Joseph Paul Lorenz of Colton, CA., mother, Sharon Lara (Augustine) of Tempe, AZ, sister, Jami Hunt Patrick (Nigel) of Prescott, AZ, two brothers, James Taylor Hunt of Bandon, OR., Jayson Hunt of Mesa AZ., and granddaughter, Holleigh Lorenz of Yucca Valley, CA. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins that loved her dearly.

She will be truly missed by all her family and friends. No immediate services are planned at this time. She will be laid to rest in Newport Beach, to be with her late husband, Eugene Truman, at the ocean that they loved so much. Her soul will then be at peace. We all loved her so much.

The Day God Called You Home

God looked around His garden
And found an empty space
Then He looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face
He put His arms around you
Lifted you to rest
God’s garden must be beautiful
For He only takes the best
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So He closed your weary eyes
And whispered “Peace be thine”
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home
