 Jerry Jones
October 1, 1949-October 25, 2021

Jerry Jones, 72, died peacefully on October 25, 2021 in Pomona, California. He was born to Robert Sr. and Betty Jones on October 1, 1949 in Greenville, Ohio. He graduated from Celina Senior High School in 1967. Jerry lived with his family in Montezuma, OH until he became a telephone lineman contractor and eventually ended up in California in 1978 where he was hired by General Telephone. It was there he met his wife Mary Jane Prothro, who he married on April 16, 1983; however, he always said they were married the year they had met in 1978.

Jerry loved NASCAR, animated movies; family, chocolate and making people laugh especially his wife, not necessarily in that order. He worked for General Telephone that became Verizon for thirty-five years. He loved his job and, as he would say, "working telephone and DSL:' when there was a job that others could not figure out. Jerry was sent. He took pride in doing a good job.

If you met him, you loved him. His only fault was his severe need to take care of the people he loved and make sure they were safe. It was a huge responsibility he wore around him like a huge invisible cape or coat. Whether it was his brothers and sister in Ohio or his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law in California, he believed it was his responsibility to make sure they would always be safe and hopefully, happy. It was a heavy burden he gladly accepted because it came from love.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years (or43 years according to Jerry), Mary Jane Prothro-Jones. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Jones of Celina, Ohio, his brothers Bob and Bonnie Jones Jr. of St. Mary’s, OH, Chuck Jones of Montezuma, OH, and his sister Cindy Huston of St. Mary’s, OH. Other survivors include his sisters-in-law Nancy and Wendy Prothro of Ventura, Calif., brother and sister-in-law Max and Marcy Prothro of Pomona, CA, brother-in-law Terry Hartline of Portland, OR and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Robert Jones Sr.

of Celina, OH and his brother James Jones of Montezuma, OH and his sister-in-law, Diane (Prothro) Hartline of Portland, Oregon.

Jerry requested no funeral, but his family and friends will celebrate his life.
