Ermalinda Ruth Urias
May 30th, 1964 - January 26th, 2023
Ermalinda Ruth Urias took her last breath on January 26th, 2023. Ruthie forever imprinted her infectious laugh, zest for life, and unwavering love for her family. God broke the mold after Ruth was born to Ermalinda R. Urias and the late Joseph Urias on May 30, 1964. Being the youngest of four, she made her mark in the family as the designated cook. Growing up in the Urias household was never dull. Reuben, Anna, and Gerald always knew they could rely on Ruthie for laughter and occasional mischief. Chef Ruthie fed countless meals to her family, and there was always plenty to go around. Her barbecuing came at price, as she blasted the oldie tunes, swatted away hands trying to snatch a bite, and lovingly called you “stupid” when you clowned her. It was rare not to see Ruthie with her family. She never said no to cruising with her sister, Anna, generally serving as her wing woman. Ruthie especially loved her life partner Joe Landin, her son Joseph Urias, his wife Loveda, her grandchildren Derek, Mia, and Trystan. She was also the designated cat lady and would bombard you with pictures of her crazy cats. Even if you didn’t ask. She spent the majority of her career as a teller at Bank of America, a cashier at Soboba Casino, and then a caretaker until 2022. Her innate gifts of benevolence and generosity were displayed daily by her actions. She gave everything to those she loved, no matter what. Those who knew her, loved her dearly.
Everybody has a Ruthie story and we'd love to hear them all. Ruthie faced her death and her mortality, as she did with her life, face on, often telling us that when she passed on, do the easiest thing to make as little effort as possible. Much to her disappointment, she will be properly honored with dignity and the highest regard at her celebration of life at her cousin “Tony’s house” as she would say.
