John L. Miller
November 17th, 1933 - January 23rd, 2023
John L. Miller, retired SFC United States Army, passed away on
January 23, 2023, at his home in Victorville, California. John was 89
years old.
He was born in November 1933 to Jesse and Blanche in Forkston,
Pennsylvania. John graduated from Athens Area High in 1951. After
graduating, he worked on his aunt’s dairy farm until February 1954
when John enlisted in the United States Army.
John was part of the Engineer Corps and served in the Korean
Conflict. He worked in Army Air Defense for most of his career. John
spent twenty-four years in the service with the Army before retiring in
December 1978.
John was stationed at many bases through out his service with the
longest being at Fort Bliss, Texas. While stationed in California, John
met and married the love of his life Mary in July 1960. They were
married for sixty-two years. They raised four children.
After retiring from the Army, John began working with Raytheon
in California. He was a test engineer. He attended Ventura Community
College where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Business. John
worked for fifteen years with the company before retiring in 1994. They
spent their retirement enjoying each other’s company.
John is survived by his loving wife Mary, his four children, and
their spouses: John, Margaret & Kelly, Sharon & Michael, and Dominica
& John. He also leaves behind his eight grandchildren: Tiana, Scott,
Justin, Cassandra, William, Sophia, James, and Mary; as well as his great
grandchildren: Haley, Alyssa, Tavin, Declyn, and Scarlett. John is also
survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Blanche, his
Aunt Bea, his sister Emma, and his sister Eleanor.
The family has entrusted Inland Memorial with the arrangements.
John will be interred at the Los Angeles National Cemetery during a
private ceremony with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, his wife asks to honor John by donating to a
charity of one’s choosing in his name.
