Mel was in the Marine Corp from 1858-1966. He was stationed at many Marine bases in the U.S., his last deployment was Vietnam, 1965-1966.
Mel was an American Embassy Marine guard in Bogota, Columbia South America where he met Bonnie, his wife of 60 years who was a secretary for the department of State.
Mel is survived by his wife, Bonnie, daughter Cathy Leathers of Garden Grove, Son Carl of Redlands. Brother Wm. D. Pool (Mary) of Edge Water, Florida, David Paul Pool (Pam) of Marion, Illinois,
Grandchildren Sara Pool of Portland, Oregon, Michael Leathers of Utica, New York, Phillip Pool, Jackie Pool and numerous nieces and nephews
