Luis Rodriguez Guillen
August 25th, 1936 - May 1st, 2024

Luis Rodriguez Guillen, (87), of Colton, California passed away on May 1, 2024. He died peacefully at home after a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

Luis, fondly known as Louie, was born to Juan and Antonio Guillen, on August 25, 1936 in Colton, California. He was the youngest of the eleven children; all have preceded him in death. Luis graduated from Colton High School and enrolled in the army.  Service to his country was important to him as most of his brothers were military men. Luis was a family man who raised his children in Colton and worked at Kaiser Steel.  He attended California State University later in life. Up until his retirement, he used his training in Criminal Justice and his trade as a welder to teach inmates in California prisons.  In July 1989, Luis married the love of his life, Penny Lee, and they enjoyed their life together with a large extended family until her death in 2020. Luis also enjoyed his visits to Mexico, particularly when his children joined him.

Luis is survived by six of his seven children. Adela Stratton (Ward), Luis Guillen, Jr. (Beatriz), Rosa Tulisiak (Michael), Ruben Guillen, Robert Guillen (Christine), Laura Teigiser (Jeremy); 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Luis was predeceased by his daughter, Leticia, in 2013.  Survivors include his beloved Barnes family, including adopted son Zechariah Barnes, stepchildren Christopher Barnes and Jacqueline Garcia, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his beloved dogs, Molly, Pierre and Chiquita. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys have lost a big fan.

Luis’ family will host a funeral service on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Hermosa Gardens in Colton.  There will be a service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. and graveside at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the ALS Association at www.als.org in Luis’ name.
