Rose Virginia Prentiss of Upland, CA, 93 years old, died in her home of 54 years on
January 12, 2025. She was surrounded and cared for by her five children.
Rose Virginia Clement was born on May 23,1931 in Pomona, CA. Her sister Alice was
born a year later. Rose and Alice had two step-siblings from their father’s first marriage,
Gladys and Robert. Rose survived all her siblings.
Rose graduated from Gardena High School in 1949. On June 2, 1950, she married
Frank H. Prentiss at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Gardena, CA. They had five
children: Annette, Frank, John, Beth, and Charles.
The Prentiss family moved to Upland in 1971. When Charles was in elementary school,
Rose went to work in the kitchen at his school. After Charles left school she worked at a Day
Care Center until she retired.
Rose was a loving mother to her 5 children, grandmother to 9, great-grandmother to 21,
and great-great-grandmother to 5.
Rose was an excellent housekeeper and cook. She loved to read novels, histories and
biographies. She was ready to help any family member, friend or neighbor that she knew
needed help, including the Vietnamese family her church sponsored in the early 1980’s. Her
husband Frank was a private pilot and owned his own airplane since 1974. Rose was his
navigator on nearly every trip from Cable Airport in California and the Pacific Coast states as
well as several other trips around the lower 48 states.
With the help of her son John she cared for her husband Frank in their home in Upland
until his death in 2019. John then cared for her at home until her death this year.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to Boys Town in Nebraska.

A service will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Upland, corner of 21st St. and
San Antonio Ave., on Friday April 25, 2025. The Rosary will be at 10:00 am and Mass from
10:30 to 11:00 am.
