Steven Wayne Underwood

December 19, 1949 - March 11, 2017

Steven Wayne Underwood, 67, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center in Riverside, CA.

Steve was born on December 19, 1949 in Seymour, IN to Charles and Barbara Underwood. The family moved to Westminster, CA and later to Westwood, CA where Steve graduated from Westwood High School in 1968. 

In 1969 Steve enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Lockbourne AFB, Ohio and Osan AFB, South Korea. He received several medals including Good Conduct, National Defense, Armed Forces Expeditionary Forces, Korea Defense Services, Expert Marksman, Cold War Victory, Air Force Service, Outstanding Unit Citation, and Presidential Unit Citation. Steve proudly served his country for 4 years and received an honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant E4. 

In 1977 Steve married his loving wife, Phyllis Miesen. They were blessed with 39 years together.

Steve worked for Amtrak and retired after 32 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved friend George, an African gray parrot, fishing, working on his model train set, going to the shooting range with his buddy Mike Lee and watching his brother Dale race Sprint cars at Perris Raceway. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family whenever he could.

Steve is survived by his wife, Phyllis Underwood of Riverside, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and DJ Miller of Ingram, TX; four brothers and sister-in-laws, Randy and Sherry Underwood of Riverside, CA; Jim and Kathy Underwood of Banning, CA; Dale and Tina Underwood of Wildomar, CA; Philip and Melodee Underwood of Apple Valley, CA; sister Deborah (Underwood) Cunningham of Corona, CA; three grandchildren, Daniel Miller of Kerrville, TX; Deanne Miller of Ingram, TX; Darrin Miller and wife Courtney of Kerrville, TX; nine great-grandchildren, seven nieces, two nephews, and other relatives. 

Memorial services will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Riverside National Cemetery.
