Hildegard (Hilda) P. Toms

June 28, 1931 -  July 26, 2024

Hildegard (Hilda) P. Toms entered into her rest on July 26, 2024. She was born in
Pennsylvania on June 28, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband LaVerne
Toms. She is survived by son David Toms and wife Karen of Tacoma, Wa; son Daniel
Toms of Ontario, Ca; daughter Diane Sachs and husband Karl of Rancho Cucamonga,
Ca; daughter Denise Lazarus of Ontario, Ca; and son Dennis Toms and wife Yolanda of
Fontana, Ca. She had 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Because she loved God more than her tradition, in December of 1982, Hilda Toms
surrendered her life to Jesus and was baptized in Jesus’ Name and filled with the gift of
the Holy Ghost. She continued to be a faithful member of Calvary Apostolic
Tabernacle/Truth Church and in her later years, the Upland Lighthouse Church. She
faithfully prayed and read her Bible and spread the love of God to everyone she met.
Hilda was a devoted homemaker raising her children with a heart full of love. After her
children were grown, she worked for several years as a cook at Calvary Kiddie Kingdom
preschool and was lovingly known as Nana by all the children and staff. Her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. Nothing made her
happier than to be surrounded by her family.
She loved playing board games and the Toms family version of lawn bowl. Her favorite
daily pastime was working the newspaper crossword puzzle with her son Dan. Come
rain or shine, her evening dessert was always ice cream, and she would generously
offer it to anyone who happened to be there.
Whether she was called Mom, Grandma, Aunt Hilda, or Sis. Toms, all who knew her
loved her. She had a servant spirit and a heart filled with love and kindness. She was
one of the sweetest ladies who ever walked this earth. She fought a good fight, she
finished her course, she kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of
righteousness.
