Darlene Adele Barnett

March 8, 1934- January 29, 2018

Darlene Adele Barnett, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Hemet, California,
surrounded by family and loved ones.

Darlene was born in Los Angeles, a native Californian. She retired from the US Postal Service
after many years as a rural route carrier. She was proud of her ability to balance her
commitments to both work and family.

Over 50 years ago, Darlene fell in love with, and married, a kind and handsome single father of
three, Gene Barnett. She raised their seven children together in Winchester, California, while
working a full-time job and keeping up with a busy family schedule. Darlene often said those
days in Winchester were some of the happiest of her life. Most of all, she loved cooking for her
family and took time to detail individual recipes each family member loved. She was an amazing
storyteller and enjoyed recounting pivotal moments in her children's lives. The matriarch of a
large and beautiful family, Darlene was a fun-loving mother, grandmother, and great-
grandmother.

She is survived by her adoring husband Gene, and children; Sue, Tom, Larry, Doug, Annette, and
Bill, along with 15 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Her parents, Alice and Gene, her
brother Earl, and her daughter Juanita preceded her in death. She has left her legacy of love
and a strong work ethic imprinted upon her beloved family. She was dearly loved and will be
sadly missed.

A memorial in her honor will be held at Inland Memorial Harford Chapel, Saturday, March 10,
2018 at 9 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory, to her favorite
charity, stjude.org

John Jess Reyes

October 4, 1965 – January 17, 2018

John Jess Reyes, was 52 years old, from San Bernardino California. He was born on October 4th ,1965. John loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served his Lord’s church with fervency and passion. Scripture was his lamp and light to his feet. The Lord’s church kept him on his path home.

The Inland Empire’s Premiere Mobile Mechanic, has finished his noble work on earth and was called home by the Lord on January 17th, 2018. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

John will be remembered by all who knew him in very different ways as he was a jack of many trades and a wearer of many hats. John was a mechanic, a welder, a craftsman of fine goods, a florist, a film expert, a speaker of Klingon, a Trekkie, a music aficionado, and above all, a comedian.

John would inject his unique bold sense of humor into any situation and would brighten up your worst day. He was luminary to the world and the need in his heart was to do good things for people around him. In the presence of John, you were in good hands. He was a giver even when he had so little to give.

John lived his life to its fullest regardless of his means. He was a lover of metal whether it be cars, engines, welding, spaceships, or music. He was a gifted man with hands that could build any vision he dreamed of and was a creative craftsman.

Most importantly, John was a loving and devoted grandfather. His happiest moments were when he had money in his pocket to spend on his precious little granddaughters who were always in tow. He wore his biggest smile when he was pushing his granddaughters in their strollers.

John is reunited with his mother Jennie and his baby daughter Carmen whom he joined in the kingdom of God.
John is survived by his son JP Reyes, his daughters Aurora Reyes and Raquel Fonseca, his grandchildren Audrey and Aurora, Angelina, John Joseph (JJ), Ean, Joseph, and Andrew. His father Louis Reyes, his four sisters Celia Reyes, Cindy Avila, Helen Banuelos, and Delia Summerfield. Three brothers-in- laws Alfonso Avila, Victor Banuelos and Joseph Summerfield. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. His best friend Andrew Alkana.

JoAnn Campbell

May 28, 1939 – January 13, 2018

It is with great love and sorrow that we say farewell to JoAnn Campbell, who left us for a better place on Saturday, January 13 after a prolonged illness. The fourth of five children, she was born in Bottineau, North Dakota in 1939 to Hans and Mabel Brandjord. A popular and successful young woman, JoAnn was Senior Class Treasurer, Assistant Editor of the school paper, and Homecoming Queen.

After high school, JoAnn attended the University of Minnesota School of Nursing where she earned a bachelors degree in 1962. Her career led her to a nursing position at the VA hospital in Long Beach, which brought her to California. It was there that she met and married Norm Petersen, the father of her three children. Later in her career, she returned to school to earn a Masters in Public Health Education from Loma Linda University.

She had a 28-year-long career in Alvord School District as a school nurse. She was invariably respected by teachers, parents, students, and other nurses for her propensity for always going above and beyond her fundamental responsibilities. Known for her calm, kind, and consistent manner, she would not hesitate to visit the most at-risk neighborhoods if there was ever a need. Her nurturing manner was reflected in her commitment to her patients.

JoAnn was passionate about the betterment of her community. A fierce advocate of women’s rights and a staunch opponent of war and hatred, she regularly stood up for her beliefs through protests and public gatherings. She was a committed volunteer at the Central City Lutheran Mission in San Bernardino, and also served on the Board of Directors of the Epilepsy Society.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her eldest son David Petersen, who passed away in 1991, and her brother Irwin Brandjord, who passed away in 2016. The family is comforted in the hope that they are once again together. She is survived by her daughter Laura Folsom of Riverside; her son Hans Petersen of Maui, HI; her brother Glenn Brandjord of Bottineau, ND; her sister Helen Stephens of Wilmette IL; her sister Janice Nelson of Tuscon, AZ; three grandsons - Thomas Folsom, Christopher Folsom, and Zackary Folsom, all of Riverside; and her loving partner Carl “Bud” Scanland.

Gilbert Garcia

March 16, 1936 - January 6, 2018

On January 6,2018, it is with great sorrow that we must say good bye to our beloved father,
grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend, Gilbert Garcia. He was born on March 16, 1936 to
Enrique and Socorro Garcia, in the coal mining town of Crested Butte, CO. The stories he used
to tell of the mountains and how he would climb them and the fish he would catch were told
with such fondness. He loved those mountains!

In his young teen years, he moved to the little town of Helper, Utah. Where he continued to
love the mountains, fishing and getting into some mischief with his brothers.

As a young adult, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he began his career at American Linen
(Steiner Corporation), working his way up to production manager before retiring 2008.

Gilbert had two older sisters, Rosa Christiansen and Jean Velis, (who preceded him in death).
He also has three younger brothers, Raymond, Eddie and Henry Garcia. He has six beautiful
children, Steven (who preceded him in death), Debbie Silva, Patty Garrity, Judy Lin, Heather
Litton and Brian Garcia. He also left behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He leaves such an emptiness in our hearts. We will always remember his jokes, his laughter,
the way he can light up a room, his contagious smile, and the funny faces he would make, just
so you wouldn't take life so seriously. He was such a joy and a pain in the butt at the same
time. He will truly be missed and forever loved.

May God hold him tight in His loving arms.
We are postponing his celebration of life ceremony until June 9th in Helper Utah, so family and
friends can pay their last respects.
